Install Squirrel Mail on Ubuntu Server

SquirrelMail webmail outputs valid HTML 4.0 for its presentation, making it compatible with a majority of current web browsers. SquirrelMail webmail uses a plugin architecture to accommodate additional features around the core application, and over 200 plugins are available on the SquirrelMail website 

In this post will show you how  to inst all SquirreMail in Ubuntu

First  Step install   the required  packages :

sudo  apt-get install squirrelmail courier-imap 

Then create the following symbolink…

ln -s /usr/share/squirrelmail/ /var/www/webmail

Configure SquirrelMail:

squirrelmail-configure

While we have been building SquirrelMail, we have discovered some
preferences that work better with some servers that don't work so
well with others. If you select your IMAP server, this option will
set some pre-defined settings for that server.

Please note that you will still need to go through and make sure
everything is correct. This does not change everything. There are
only a few settings that this will change.

Please select your IMAP server:
 bincimap = Binc IMAP server
 courier = Courier IMAP server
 cyrus = Cyrus IMAP server
 dovecot = Dovecot Secure IMAP server
 exchange = Microsoft Exchange IMAP server
 hmailserver = hMailServer
 macosx = Mac OS X Mailserver
 mercury32 = Mercury/32
 uw = University of Washington's IMAP server
 gmail = IMAP access to Google mail (Gmail) accounts

 quit = Do not change anything

open  browser  and  check the  config   http://ip/mail/src/configtest.php

Create users 

First add Unix users  and  make  password,

Add users  mail :

Create a Maildir folder for “user”. A folder of this name must not exist.

/usr/lib/courier-imap/bin/maildirmake -S /home/user/Maildir

Create the “Notices” folder that is to be shared.

/usr/lib/courier-imap/bin/maildirmake -s write -f Notices /home/user/Maildir

Change owner and group if needed.

chown -R user_name.group_name /home/user/Maildir/.Notices

Change permissions for all to read and write.

chmod -R 2777 /home/user/Maildir

Add this to the file /usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/maildirshared so it appears for all users.

PublicFolders /home/user/Maildir/.Notices

Now you will have:

shared
-PublicFolders
-Notices

Dont  forget  to add  Maildir  to  /etc/postfix/main.cf

home_mailbox = Maildir/
mydestination = localdomain, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost, MYDOMAIN.XY
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, 192.168.1.0/24

Now login  and  enjoy   send  and  receive  emails :
